Come experience the magic of printing and dyeing with natural, local products at our ColourField studio in Cardiff. You will get expert tuition from owner  Cat and experience:

• Indigo and vegetable dyeing
• Natural Printmaking
• Dyeing and mark-making with iron

£65 including materials and a simple home-made lunch. We will also provide:

• Gloves
• All dyes and sample materials
• A vegetarian home made lunch
• Extra items for purchase to dye such as tee-shirts and fabric lengths

Indigo is an ancient dye made from plants that transforms clothing and textiles into beautiful shades of blue.  We use only natural, non-harmful food grade ingredients. The process is truly unique and creates hues unlike any other dye.

Walnut is a beautiful, earthy, natural brown dye, made from locally collected walnut husks and using minimal chemicals.

Iron is a magical ingredient that is simple and safe with amazing results on paper and cloth.

We will also use seasonal foods and plants – such as carrot, daffodil, eucalyptus and dandelion…the possibilities are endless! At each workshop you will learn various natural print and dye techniques, to  make your own samples and learn more about dyes, plants, their uses and history.

To prepare for the workshops:

Bring in three personal items* to transform including fashion or small home goods.  Ideas include napkins, a tee shirt, pillow case, a summer dress, linen trousers, a scarf, a tote bag or a table runner.  The items don’t have to be white, in fact, some of the most interesting transformations happen on items originally with a print or other colour. Loved, gently used or stained items are also a great choice.

*Note: Unfortunately large and heavy items such as bedding and rugs cannot be accommodated at this time.

Check the labels of the items to make sure they are made from natural fibres such as cotton, bamboo, hemp, wool, linen, viscose or silk. You need to wear clothing that you do not mind getting a drip or two of indigo on – such as jeans!
